Red Cliffs Players performance postponed

A play by Red Cliffs Players has been postponed again after a year of rescheduled performances, zoom rehearsals and recasting.

The adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s Guards! Guards! was originally set to be performed in August last year but had been rescheduled to this week due to coronavirus restrictions.

“It’s sad, it’s disappointing, but I understand the reasoning behind (the new restrictions),” cast member Mark Deakin said.

By the time the performance takes to the stage, the crew will be “really well polished with it,” he said.

The crew had been rehearsing and learning their lines over Zoom but were due to go through final rehearsals in Cardross Hall this week before opening night on Friday.

“There are some things you can’t do on Zoom,” Mr Deakin said, including “makeup, costumes, knowing where to look, and lighting.”

The players had already sold tickets and had COVID-safe guidelines in place including limited audience numbers, online bookings, temperature checks and a check-in system, Mr Deakin said.

The play is a fantasy-comedy about a troupe of guards defending the city of Ankh-Morpork from a dragon, he said, and would appeal to a younger audience and any fans of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series.

If rules allow, performances will go ahead on February 20, 21, 25, 26 and 27. Anyone with tickets for the Friday night performance is advised to contact their place of purchase to reschedule or apply for a refund.

Tickets are $20 each and can be bought from Green Goddess Flowers or online at trybooking.com/BKJJS.
