THE longest serving councillor in Swan Hill Rural City Council (SHRCC) history has resigned from council effective today amid accusations of having pecuniary interests and "being pushed out."

Robinvale ward Cr John Katis will not see out the remainder of his term, which was due to end in 2020, after 23 years as councillor.

It comes after Cr Gary Norton tendered his resignation from council just weeks prior.

Mr Katis said an accusation from within council of a pecuniary interest was the "final straw" which led to his resignation.
