RIVERSIDE

THE Stableford event played on Monday, August 1 didn’t draw the numbers to count as a comp, but those few who hit the fairways made the most of their day.

It was a win to Meg Hamence in the ladies Tuesday nine hole Stableford with a fine 18 points.

Balls:(2) 16 points.

NTPs: 12th – Jill Shalders (150cm);  Trentham Wines 18th – Val Berry 410cm.

Adel Dal Corobbo put together a lovely round of 39 points for a win in the 18 hole competition.

Balls: (3) 33 points.

NTP: 4th – Jan Lloyd (395cm).

Wednesday’s Stableford was in two grades and Shane Johnson (38 points) put in the top score in A Grade from Ned Klemm on 36 points.

An impressive score of 41 points from Ray Cottle gave him the B Grade win just one point in front of Paul Danenberg on 40 points. 

Balls: (13) 35 points.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Ryan Hawke (120cm); 7th – Lucas Byron (145cm); 12th – Anthony Scholes (175cm); Sunbeam 17th – David Lloyd (202cm); Good Deal Tyres 18th – Simon Dale (190cm).

Thursday the ladies were playing for the Monthly Medal and putting competition and it was the ladies club champion who stood up once again collecting another medal for 2022. Lisa Garioch had an amazing game, finishing with an excellent 79 off the stick for a 69 nett and the win. A very nice round from Chitra Rankin (93/72) put her in second place.

Balls: (5) 77 nett.

The putting competition went the way of Heather Klemm with a satisfying 26 putts.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Chitra Rankin (455cm), 7th – Heather Klemm (132cm), 12th – Lisa Garioch (60cm); 18th – Dot Knight (a birdie). 

Friday’s nine hole medley Stableford saw a win to Anthony Morris on a fine 21 points over Jake Cameron 20 points after a countback over Josh McAskill. 

Jan Lloyd had her timing down pat, pocketing the win on Saturday in the ladies Stableford with solid 38 points, nine points clear of her nearest rival Heather Klemm on 29 points.

Balls: (2) 29 points. 

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Heather Klemm (895cm); 7th, 12th and Sunbeam Fruits 18th all went the way of Jan Lloyd (85cm, 120cm and 130cm). 

Par was the game for the men on Saturday with the overall best score coming from Tony Johns with a mighty (+5), giving him the Drummonds Golf Voucher. 

Ashley Johnstone snuck in to win A Grade with his fine (+3) over runner-up Chris O’Brien (+2). 

Lachlan Inglis was impressive in B Grade, leaving with the win after a well played (+4), from two on (+3). Second place was handed to Simon Bartsch after a countback against Ray Cottle.

Balls: (18) (-1).

Two perfect shots gave Darren Gray a remarkable eagle on the par four 16th.

Sunday’s medley Stableford saw competition in two grades with the A grade winner Peter Ellery on 39 points from runner-up Angelo D’Amico on 38 points. 

The B Grade winner was Paul Danenberg on an outstanding 41 points well in front of runner-up Brodie Peters on 35 points.

Balls: (9) 35 points.

NTPs: 4th – Mick Innes (340cm); 7th – Oscar Mannix (445cm); 12th – Mark Woodhouse (340cm); 17th – Glen Walker (380cm); 18th – Don Male (170cm). 

VETERANS

A 4BBB Stableford event was played at Coomealla on Monday, August 1. There were 52 in the field including new member Peter Jury and a visitor from Adelaide, Colin Levey. Welcome to Peter who we hope becomes a regular contributor.

Greg King and Grant Giddings played well to be the winning pair with a credible 43 points. A countback was needed to determine second and third. Glenn Butterworth and Maurice Munro came in second with Barry Pilgrim and Garry Swallow taking out third place with both teams scoring 42 points.

Other players to do well on the day and win a golf ball were Ian Nimon, Tony Dal Corobbo, George Mason, Jimmy Stevens, Keith Williams, Peter Gilmore, Ken Wakefield, George Poriazis and Paul Treacy.

The NTP winners were Paul Treacy on the 3rd, George Mason on the 7th, Jill Gleeson on the 11th and Mark Woodhouse on the 18th.

Thanks to the staff at Coomealla for their support in conducting another successful event. Thank you to the ladies who prepared and served us lunch.

It was with sadness that we learnt of the passing of Frank Tippet, a long term member of the association. As a mark of respect the group held a minute silence. Our sincere condolences to Frank’s family.

We look forward to our next event which is a single Stableford competition to be held at the Robinvale Golf Club on Monday, September 5.

MILDURA

LADIES competition Tuesday, August 2.

Tuesday 9 holes single Stableford winner was Kay Baker (34) with 20 points from runner-up Fran Thornton (22) with 18 points.

Tuesday’s 27-hole Foursomes Championship scratch winners were Susan Walmsley and Eily Raeck with a gross score of 142 from runners-up Sue Burgess and Margaret McGlashan on 145.

Handiap winners were Susan Walmsley and Eily Raeck with a nett score of 109.5 from runners-up Valerie Whitelaw and Elaine Henshall with 113 nett.

NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate – Helen Treacy and Kathy Cameron 1440cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Susan Walmsley and Eily Raeck 405cm.

Fridays event was Stableford and the winner was Carla Sherriff (25) with 34 points on a countback with Elaine Henshall (29) also on 34 points.

The men played Stroke on August 3 for the Monthly Mug and 70 players took to the course. Thank you to the sponsors TWW and Ransom’s for the trophies.

A Grade winner was Jeff Chalmers (14) with a nett 69 to win from Garry Smart (18) on 70 nett on a countback with Greg Toma (9) also on 70 nett.

B Grade winner was David Whitelaw surviving a three-way countback from runner-up Graham Robertson (26) and third place Billy Fishwick (19) all tied on 69 nett.

Balls: (17) 73 nett or better collected.

On Saturday a single medley Stableford was played with 76 players finishing their rounds, getting four seasons of weather all in one day.

A Grade had a breakaway winner in Simon Kelly (15) with an impressive 42 points, seven shots ahead of runner-up Andrew Keogh (8) on 35 points and third place was Michael White (14) on 34 points.

B Grade winner was Jason O’Brien (20) with 42 points from runner-up Tony Beyen (19) with 39 points and third place went to Ben Nitschke (21) on 38 points.

There were 19 balls in the ball comp and 33 points or better collected.

The Club Championships for 54-hole ladies and 72-hole men’s championships will commence this month. Keep an eye out on the tee booking page and put in your entry. 

The committee wish to conduct a series of working bees in September to assist with course preparation for spring growth on tees and fairways. Keep an eye out for information on when and what will be required to assist in the next couple of weeks.

WENTWORTH

Thursdays Stableford went to Bill Murray with 37 points from runner-up Anette Green with 35 points.

Ball winners were Howard Hankinson 35 points and Bill Slee on 32 points.

NTP: Glen Walker 450cm on the 17th.

Mr Risky went to Wayne Astbury on 27 points.

Sunday’s Stroke was unconvincingly won by Bill Slee with 75 nett. Runner-up again was Annette Green with 80 nett.

Ball winner was Howard Hankinson with 81 nett.

NTP: Bill Slee 185cm on the 2nd.

Mr Risky went to Col Stewart, fresh from a long break on 90 nett.

 Club championships are on Saturday, August 13, Saturday, August 20, Sunday, August 21 and Saturday, August 27. Please enter as this is our premium event. We will be looking at a different schedule for 2023 to try and include all members to participate.

RED CLIFFS

LAST Wednesday the ladies played a Blind Drawn Aggregate Stableford and the winners with a combined score of 67 points was Julianne Wood 36 points and Joan Ryan on 31 points was runner-up.

NTPs: 3rd – Penny Marks; 12th – Lea Walmsley; 15th – Naomi Pitt; 17th – Fay Ross.

In the men’s Stableford competition Graeme Duffy on 36 points was the winner from Neil Wilkie on 35 points.

NTPs: 8th – Mark Wilson; 12th – Neil Wilkie; 17th – Lewis Young; 18th – Paul Dominelli.

On Saturday both ladies and men played Stroke, it was the second round of club championships for the ladies and the final round for the men.

Winners in the men’s club championships were: 

A Grade Scratch Daryl Morgan with rounds of 76-70-77=223 from Troy Germane 76-77-77=230.

B Grade Scratch Robert Stewart 92-87-93=272 from Graham Lohmeyer 101-88-89=278.

C Grade Scratch Rohan Hillier 98-90-100=288.

Leading in the ladies championships are:

A Grade Jill Gleeson 90-89=179 followed by Suzanne Johns 90-94=184 and Sheryl Blagus 88-99=187.

B Grade Scratch Dee Hopkins 93-99 =192 followed by Bobbie Ramsay 98-108 =206.
C Grade Scratch Marion Pengelly 101-110=211 followed by Helen Wood on 107 109=216.

In the daily competition the winners were for the ladies  were: A Grade: Julie Mc Ewan 71 nett from Dee Hopkins on 73 nett; B Grade Deb Dark 75 nett was the winner from Ruth Cupper 77 nett on a countback.

Today the ladies play the final round of the club championships while the men will play Stableford, and on Saturday we have an Open Medley 3 Ball Lone Ranger.
