Vaccine demand grows as more Mildura people line up for jab

A MILDURA doctor has said vaccine hesitancy is down and people in the town who were previously against the jab are now requesting appointments.

Dr John Dyson-Berry from Lime Medical Clinic said his service was fielding high demand for coronavirus vaccine appointments following the announcement of the first coronavirus case in Mildura in 15 months at the weekend.

“A lot more people are convinced they need to be vaccinated now,” Dr Dyson-Berry said.

“I know people who were really anti (vaccination) are now trying to get it.”

“People are running around trying to get appointments.”

Lime Medical Clinic is one of two GPs in Mildura offering both Pfizer and AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccinations.

The service has recently been approved to receive an extra 60 Pfizer vaccine doses per week, and now offers 150 AstraZeneca and 210 Pfizer appointments each week.

It has given over 2000 first and second dose coronavirus vaccinations since April.

Mallee District Aboriginal Services is also offering Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccinations to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, but will be closed until further notice as they manage testing requirements.
