Champ of champs grabs win

BOWLS Sunraysia Champion of Champions winner Carolyn Coles has added another accolade to her growing resume.

Her outstanding victory against the best the region has to offer saw her named as the first monthly winner in the 2024 Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year after she was nominated by home club Red Cliffs.

Coles started the year on fire by claiming the champion of champions at Coomealla Bowls Club, first defeating Underbool’s Jennifer Wakefield in an entertaining match to qualify for the grand final against Tania Gust of Coomealla.

Initially leading 6-5, Coles surged ahead with a maximum count of four shots on end 12, eventually reaching a commanding 21-6 lead.

Despite Gust’s spirited comeback narrowing the gap to 23-24, Coles saved the best bowl for her last, finally drawing the shot she needed to win the title.

Her win followed a successful few months in which she was crowned Red Cliffs Ladies Club singles champion in December for the third year in a row.

She was also selected as a Mallee Murray Bowls Region representative at Ballarat.

In addition to her success on the green, Coles is actively involved in organising and running lawn bowls both at Red Cliffs and in ladies bowls events in Sunraysia.

She is a current board member of Red Cliffs Bowling Club and Sunraysia Ladies Annecto League.

As the January winner she received an Intersport Mildura voucher and is now eligible for the 2024 Community Bank Merbein & District 97.9 Triple M Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year Awards.

Mallee Sports Assembly is now calling for April nominations for the Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year awards.

Nomination forms are available from 101-101a Ninth Street, Mildura, or via www.malleesportsassembly.org.au
