TODAY is Stableford Golf Shirt, Friday is a nine-hole medley Stableford, Saturday is round 1 stroke of the District Championships and Sunday is round 2 stroke.

MILDURA

ON Tuesday, September 10, the ladies 18-hole Stableford event was won by Gayle Ford with 40 points from runner-up Glenys Anderson on 39 points.

Balls: (4) 40 to 33 points.

NTPS: 2nd Trentham Estate – Lynda Saunders 285cm, 10th Trentham Estate – Glenys Anderson 6cm, 12th Zilzie Wines – Margaret Morrison 270cm.

Last Wednesday a medley stroke event was played for the Monthly Mug.

David Healy won A Grade on a countback from runner-up Peter Cottrell, both on net 69, from third placed Ross Williams on net 70.

B Grade was won by Stephen Pongrax with 66 net from runner-up Rob Gooch with net 68 with Robert Latta third with net 69.

Balls: (26) net 66-73 on a countback.

NTPs: 1st Pete’s Pure – Ron Casey 195cm, 2nd Pig – Andrew Stanbrook 435cm, 10th Trentham Estate – Rod Ford 680cm, 12th Zilzie Wine – Nigel Ingram 690cm.

The women’s Stableford on Friday was won by Carla Sherriff on 34 points from runner-up Jenny McCoy with 33 points.

Saturday was a medley Stableford competition played in three grades in trying conditions.

A Grade was won by Ross Bowen on 39 points from runner-up Robert Pallet on a countback, with Nathan Lever third with 38 points.

B Grade was won by Ben Nitshke with 40 points from runner-up John Harvey on a countback with Jake Cameron, both on 37 points.

C Grade was won by Kevin Burkel with 42 points from runner-up Bobbie Bettess with 42 points from third placed Rod Truman on 39 points.

Balls: (22) 42 to 36 points on a countback.

NTPs: 2nd Pig – Larry Finis 115cm, 10th Trentham Estate – Robert Pallot 415cm, 12th Zilzie Wines – Kevin Burke 224cm. Ranfurly – Kevin Burke 10 points.

Ron Casey continued his good form by taking out the veterans Stableford event on Monday with 40 points from runner-up Ross Bowen on 39 points with third-placed Peter Dooley on 37 points.

Balls: (4) 37 to 36 points on a countback.

NTPs: 2nd – Robert Latta 345cm, 12th – Ross Bowen 23cm.

RIVERSIDE

KEN Upton’s 35 points was enough to win the Veteran and Friends Stableford on Monday September 9.

The ladies nine-hole Stableford on Tuesday saw Tracy Lee come away with a win with 19 points from runner-up Wendy Dawson on 18 points.

NTP: 18th – Wendy Dawson 61cm.

Chris O’Brien brought his A game to the course on Wednesday in the men’s Stableford event, winning A Grade with 40 points from runner-up Roberto Fuoco on 39 points.

A countback was need B Grade with three players finishing on 36 points. Martin Deacon took the win from runner-up Rob Arnold and Daniel Tankard third.

Balls: 34 points on a countback.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Jerry Stephens 360cm, 7th – Peter Schroeder 330cm, 12th – Mathew Bird 530cm, Sunbeam Fruits 17th – Mathew Bird 505cm, Good Deal Tyres 18th – George Riordan 745cm.

After taking out the Monthly Medal last week, Chitra Rankin notched up another win in the ladies competition this week. Her 38 points was enough to win on Thursday from runner-up Janette Mason on a countback with Wendy Dawson, both on 36 points.

Balls: 34 points.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Jen Leach 783cm, Zilzie Wines 7th – Lirlene Crozier 508cm, 12th – Wendy Dawson 115cm, 18th – Chitra Rankin 8cm.

Friday’s nine-hole medley Stableford was won by Fletcher Ryan who finished with a terrific 24 points from Jake Kiel with 23 points.

Maree Irvin completed her round on Saturday with an excellent 41 points, to have the overall best score of the week, over Kathy Ridley close behind on 40 points.

Balls: 38 points.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Adel Dal Corobbo 390cm, Zilzie Wines 7th – Janette Mason 492cm, 12th – Pat Riordan 230cm, 18th – Tracey Bryan 520cm.

Saturday’s men’s field was played in three grades, with Tony Coppola grabbing A Grade to join Irvin on score of the week, with an outstanding 41 points. Rob Garioch was runner-up, on 39 points.

Ian Fleming put together a winner score in B Grade with 39 points in front of Mathew Bird on 37 points.

C Grade went to Ken Horsby on 39 points from runner-up Thomas Halton 37 points.

Balls: 34 points on a countback.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Tony Coppola 190cm, 7th – Kane Brown 210cm, 12th – Reece Plummer 74cm, Sunbeam Fruits 17th – Kane Brown 200cm, Good Deal Tyres 18th – Gary Darren 65cm.

There were two grades competing in the medley Stableford on Sunday with Craig George winning A Grade on 37 points after a countback with runner-up Travis Jobson.

Darren Knight picked up the win in B Grade with 38 points from Peter Welling’s on 37 points.

Balls: 35 points.

NTP: 12th – Darren Knight 415cm.

MERBEIN

WINDY weather and newly cored and scarified greens greeted players over the past week but scores were still unusually good for some of our stalwart players.

Wednesday Stableford winner was Adrian Rudd 39 points, runner-up Ryan Teasdale 37 points.

Ball: Terry Fitzpatrick 35 points.

NTPs: 3rd Australian Vintage – Jim Piper 250cm, 8th Drummond Golf Sunraysia Golf Range – Ryan Teasdale 328cm, 12th G&T – Terry Fitzpatrick 66cm.

Saturday’s Stableford winner Mark Holding 39 points, runner-up Dylan Burnett 38 points.

Balls: Graeme Kerr 38 points, Terry Fitzpatrick 36 points.

NTPs: 3rd Australian Vintage – Ken Matulick 350cm, 16th Merbein Lions Club – Mark Holding 610cm.

The annual Par 3 Ambrose in Twos is on Friday, September 27 and bookings can be made online via our website. There will be $100 NTP prize per hole proudly sponsored by SGH Petroleum.

RED CLIFFS

LAST Wednesday the men and women played Stableford. Ray Pain had 42 points to win for the men and Ryan Dowdy was runner-up with 40 points.

Balls: Paul Dominelli, Ian Doering, Glen Riordan, Roger Walder and Gary Evans.

NTPs: 8th – R. Dowdy, 12th – R. Walder, 15th – I. Doering, 17th – R. Dowdy, 18th – P. Dominelli.

Sally Jones won the ladies A Grade with 36 points and Dee Hopkins was runner-up on a countback with 35 points. In B Grade Denise Morgan had 36 points to win and Kath Cattanach had 35 points to be runner-up.

Balls: Joan Ryan, Fran Mackay, Deanne Davis, Marion Pengelly and Ruth Cupper.

NTPs: 3rd – J. Gleeson, 8th – P. Marks, 12th – R. Cupper, 15th – S. Marwood, 17th – J. Warne.

On Saturday the men played a 4BBB par. David Spencer and Rodney Begg won with +8 on a countback from Ken Evans and Tim Bell.

Balls: Chris Merlin, Brad Morgan, Terry Pain, Steven Forrest, Malcolm Goodieson and Gary Nunn.

NTPs: 3rd – M. Hogan, 8th – M. Blagus, 12th – K. Woosnam, 15th – B. Morgan, 18th – M. Burns.

The ladies played par and Marion Pengelly had +1 to win and Jan Lloyd was runner-up on a countback with -2.

Balls: Sandy Wright and Sue Poole.

NTPs: 3rd – M. Pengelly, 12th – J. Lloyd, 15th – S. Blagus, 17th – J. Lloyd.

A medley Stableford was played on Sunday and Rueban Shimack had 37 points to win on a countback from Clayton Downing.

Balls: Cooper Campbell, Fletcher Ryan and Glen Riordan.

NTP: 8th – Gary Nunn.

VETERANS

Sunraysia & District Victorian Golfers Association has entered two teams in the Victorian Veteran Teams event at Bendigo played on Monday and Tuesday.

Our first team consists of Ned and Heather Klemm, and George Mason and Chris O’Brien, Jeff Riordan and Lirlene Crosier make up the second team.

The next statewide competition is the State Championships to be held at the Cowra Golf Club on Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8. Entry forms and details are available on the VVGA website vvga.org.au.

These dates will clash with the next district event, the Vines Retirement Village single Stableford at Red Cliffs Golf Club on Monday, October 7. Members have a difficult choice to make.

WENTWORTH

THURSDAY sorted out the men from the boys as it was a cold and windy day, but of those who braved the conditions there were two exceptional holes played by members.

Glen Walker birdied the par four 13th, which has a temporary kikuyu green in front of the normal green, so putts can go anywhere. Then on the par four 15th, Bill Slee played a 100 metre-plus shot off the fairway that rolled onto the green and then straight in to the hole for an eagle, which won him the eagles nest.

Winner on the day was Pete Trevathan with net 76 followed by Bill Slee on net 78, while Glen Walker took home Mr Risky with net 82.

NTP: 8th – Glen Walker 760cm.

Sunday’s Stableford was won by Howard Hankinson with a score of 34 points from Paul Schmidt with 33 points with Bill Slee picking up a ball on a countback. Vicki Appleton picked up the Mr Risky pink ball.

NTP: 12th – Phil Whitton 800cm.

NSW golf professional Garry Begg is running a free come and try day on Monday, September 23. Ladies are from 12noon-1pm, juniors 3.30-4.30pm and adults are from 5-6pm. There will be a sausage sizzle after at each session.

October 20 is the Flood Recovery Ambrose day open to members and visitors. Get your team entry in and there will be a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one on a nominated par 3 hole. Along with winners, runners-up and other prizes, there will be a barbecue lunch, bar will be open all day and nibbles after play.

Stableford is played on Sundays and stroke on Thursdays with a 9.30am regisitration for a 10am tee off. Visitors are most welcome . The chicken run resumes on Tuesdays once daylight savings begins.
