Veteran Mensforth shines

NICHOLS Point’s John Mensforth starred in the South Australia Veterans Cricket Association Over -50s win over Victoria in Mount Gambier on Tuesday.

Mensforth hit an unbeaten 42 for SA from 45 (retired) in a final-ball thriller.

SA needed 19 from the last over to chase down Victoria’s 9/186 and were able to tie the game with a ball to spare and then secure the victory.

Mildura West’s Stewart Hallam was instrumental, finishing on 19 not out.

Mensforth and Hallam were two of four Sunraysia cricketers in the SA XI, with former Settlers wicketkeeper-batsman Anthony Telfer scoring 38 opening the batting another key performance.

Workers Gol Gol’s Tony Hickey made 11 with the bat and was solid the ball in Victoria’s innings – proving as difficult as ever to get away with 1/24 from his nine overs while also contributing a run out.

Hallam took 2/28 in another good performance – sharing the new ball with Hickey – with one of his wickets a stumping by Telfer.
