When family and friends get in the way of your exercise goals

I WANT to put this as nicely as I can after I wrote about starting or getting motivated for exercise a couple of weeks ago.

One of the points was to get help from family and friends to help you stick to what you set out to achieve.

What happens when the opposite happens and they don’t help but hinder your efforts to look after your health and fitness?

It’s not surprising to hear and it’s happened before.

You may be going really well and you get excited to talk to a friend and all they say is “you’re obsessed with exercise” or “you looked better before”.

These are just a couple of quotes I have heard before.

Now this could be pretty flattening and knock you off course a little. So what could you do if this was to happen to you?

You could: 1. Take it on board and let it really affect you to the point you start getting back into old habits and lose all the motivation and momentum you have worked so hard for; or

2. Accept their opinion, smile and thank them for their input.

It’s very simple, some people won’t be there for you and that’s OK. Just know how good you’re feeling about yourself, how far you may have come, keep the people that support you close.

And if you haven’t started yet, you now know to look out for this happening.

So now is the time to start and look after yourself.
