ROBINVALE

THE Robinvale Golf Club Open was held over the weekend, with the men playing 36 holes on the Sunday and the women playing over 18 holes.

Cameron Stewart won the open scratch comfortably with a total of 140, nine clear of runner-up B. Cucia on 149.

The tables were turned in the A Grade handicap with B. Cucia winning by one stroke with net 145 to Cameron’s net 146.

The ladies scratch open champion was Stephanie Baker with 78 off the stick, while the handicap winner was K. Lithgow with net 69.

The morning handicap winner was A. Scarcella net 70 on a countback from T. Zappia. The afternoon handicap winner was C. Natale net 66 from runner-up D. Camera net 67.

B Grade: Scratch winner T. Zappia 163, runner-up A. Scarcella 167; handicap winner T. Zappia net 139, runner-up A. Scarcella net 141.

C Grade: Scratch winner P. Shadwick 183 on a countback from runner-up C. Jukes; handicap winner C. Natale net 139, runnerup P. Shadwick net 143.

RED CLIFFS

LAST Wednesday the men played Stableford and Michael Snadden won with 41 points from runner-up Paul Dominelli on a countback with 38 points.

NTPs: 8th – N. Birch; 12th – A. Bateman; 15th – A. Rayner; 17th – G .Bettess. The ladies played their second round of the club championships and in A Grade Robyn Hand had 72 net to win from runner-up Faye Englefield with73 net. In B Grade Fran Mackay won with 74 net and Kath Cattanach was runner-up with 75 net.

Tim Bell won A Grade with 69 net and Jason Finch was runner-up on a countback with 73 net. In B Grade Ian Doering won with 72 net and Peter Lynch was runner-up on a countback with 73 net.

Ladies Club Championships sponsored by Wright Metal Recyclers: A Grade handicap winner was Sue Johns 226 from runner-up Lee Bottomley 227. B Grade handicap winner was Jan Lloyd 223 from runner-up Chris Taylor 228. C Grade handicap winner Bobbie Ramsay 229 from runner-up Elaine Gray 234.

In the A Grade gross section Lee Bottomley won with 239 from runner-up Sue Johns with 280. In B Grade Jan Lloyd won with 295 from runner-up Robyn Hand with 307. Bobbie Ramsay won C Grade with 322 from runnerup Karen Bulman with 337.

Best net score over the three rounds went to Elaine Gray with 69 net.

Bookings are now open for the Red Cliffs Golf Club Open which will be held on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2.


VETERANS

SOME excellent results were achieved from local veteran golfers at the recent VVGA championships held in Sunraysia.

Chris O’Brien was runner-up in the gross competition; Graeme Southwell won A Grade while David Lloyd was runner-up; Gary Swallow was runner-up in B Grade and George Riordan was third; Janet Luke won C Grade from runner-up Marie Hudak and Heather Klemm was third.

The next competition is on Monday, June 3 at the Red Cliffs Golf Club to contest the Best Price Golf single Stableford event.

An extra event will be played in June (Monday, June 17) on the sand scrapes at the Ouyen Golf Club, which will be a 4BBB Stableford.


COOMEALLA

TODAY the men and women play Stableford; tomorrow is the Tri-State Ambrose; Friday is the Tri-State Masters Stableford; Saturday is a medley 4BBB Stableford Niblick Trophy; Sunday’s an 18-hole medley Stableford. Last Wednesday the men and women played stroke for golf shoes: A Grade men: Craig Hollingworth 69 net, runner-up Peter Duscher 70 net, third David Lewin 71 net.

MILDURA

THE ladies played a 4BBB Stableford event on Tuesday, May 14. Nine-hole winners were Jean Moore and Isobel Westhead with 19 points. The 18-hole 4BBB Stableford winners were Ruth Rodi and Beverly Matthews with 43 points from runners-up Carla Sherriff and Mabel Crouch with 40 points.

NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate – Gayle Ford 495cm; 10th Trentham Estate – Mabel Crouch 162cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Ruth Rodi 8cm.

Last Wednesday the men played an American foursome with 80 players teaming up for a fun event.

Winners were Paul Treacy and Maurice Warn with 65.75 net from runners-up Paul White and Chris Szigeti with 66.12 net. Third place went to Greg Toma and Joe Rocca with 67 net.

Balls: (18) 72 net on a countback. Kate Maloney (33) won the ladies 18-hole Stableford on Friday with 40 points from runner-up Carla Sherriff (26) 36 points.

The Forty Winks 4BBB par qualifying day was held on Saturday with a good field of 102 players, with the top eight scores qualifying for the matchplay knockout.

The winners on the day were Estavan Verdoorn and Simon Middleton with +8 from runners-up Tony Dal Corobbo and Doug Matthews on +7 on a countback from third-placed Phil Nash and Perry Hill.

The qualifying teams and draw are: 1st T. Dal Corobbo and D. Matthews v 8th G. Harrington and R. Ford; 2nd P. Nash and P. Hill v 7th D. Murray and W. Dahmes; 3rd J. Cameron and A. Lillia v 6th R. Morgan and T. Bell; 4th N. Lever and G. Hazeldine v 5th T. Crouch and T. Beyen. Matches must be played as soon as possible and the captain and match committee will assist to help organise a day to play if required.

RIVERSIDE

THE ladies nine-hole stroke competition played on Tuesday, May 14 was won by the ever-consistent Adel Dal Corobbo with 37 net in front of Roz Nash on 39 net.

Balls: 40 net on a countback.

NTP: 7th – Adel Dal Corobbo 870cm.

The men played for their Monthly Award on Wednesday and Seb Raiti had the overall best score of the day with an outstanding round of 84/68.

A countback was needed in both grades, with 71 net the popular score.

Bodan Bishop captured A Grade on 83/71 over Trevor Williams 84/71.

Tom Till took out B Grade after his 105/71 with Jeff Riordan’s 91/71 picking up second place in front of John Denman.

Balls: 74 net on a countback. Steven Smith may not have come away with a win, but he certainly will remember his day, after a sensational shot on the 18th landed him a hole-in-one.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Ash Robinson 105cm; 7th – Michael Holcroft 502cm; Good Deal Tyres 18th – Steven Smith 0cm. It was another stroke comp on Thursday for the ladies with the Monthly Medal up for grabs. Heather Klemm had a terrific round of 94/70 to take the medal from runner-up Wendy Dawson on 94/71 after a countback against Roylene Bailey 106/71.

Balls: 71 net.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Lisa Garioch 450cm; 12th – Roylene Bailey 13cm; 18th – Wendy Dawson with a birdie.

Fridays nine-hole medley Stableford was won by Paul Colbert on 21 points, with a fourway countback handing David Byrne second place in front of John Marlais, Ryan Samaras and Clint Babler, all on 20 points. Saturday’s Stableford had Roylene Bailey on 37 points taking the win over Janet Luke on 36 points.

Balls: 35 points.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Lisa Garioch 175cm; Zilzie Wines 7th – Janet Luke 570cm; 12th – Lirl Crozier 66cm; 18th – Janet Luke with a birdie. It was a par event for the men on Saturday with Ian Fleming bagging the win in A Grade with +3 from runner-up Rob Garioch on +2. A clear winner in B Grade was Greg King on +3 from Roberto Fuoco runner-up on a countback over Jayden Smith, both +1. Delroy Stretton had the round of the week, with +5 to win C Grade over Mick Hawton in second place on +3.

Sunday’s medley Stableford was played in two grades with Nicholas George collecting the A Grade win on 38 points in front of SteveBatchelor on 37 points. The B Grade win went to Ben Hunt after a countback with Daniel Ghidinelli, both on 39 points.

MERBEIN

A SINGLE Stableford was played on Wednesday, May 8 which was won by Mark Holding with 34 points from Graeme Kerr 32 points.

NTPs: 3rd Australian Vintage Wines – Ken Matulick 310cm; 12th G&T Schnitzels weekly – Graeme Kerr 1100cm; 16th Merbein Lions Club weekly – Terry Fitzpatrick 390cm. On Saturday, May 11 a strong field competed in a Stableford competiton with Steve Farley emerging victorious with 36 points from runner-up Dylan Bur 35 points on a countback from Oscar Mannix.

Balls: Oscar Mannix and David Timmis.

NTPs: 3rd Australian Vintage – Michael Thomson 774cm; 12th G&T Schnitzels weekly – Steve Farley 576cm; 16th MerbeinLions weekly – Oscar Mannix 600cm.

Last Wednesday’s Stableford winner was Robert Redman with 36 points from runnerup Graeme Kelly with 35 points.

NTP: 3rd Australian Vintage – Robert Redman 470cm. Saturday’s 4BBB Stableford was won by Paul Mulder and David Timmis 46 points from runners-up Terry Fitzpatrick and Robert Redman 43 points on a countback from Keryn Neindorf and Steve Farley.
