Pointers open account

NICHOLS Point broke through for their first win of the Football Federation Sunraysia S-League in style.

After heading in to half time against Three Colours with neither team having scored, the Pointers went on a second-half blitz to run out 4-1 victors in the senior men’s division.

Samson Namatak opened the scoring in the 58th minute and secured his brace about 20 minutes later, with a Newton Likaveke strike sandwiched in between.

Colours goalkeeper Emilio Falivene found himself playing in the outfield as another keeper came on to the ground and managed to score with nine minutes remaining, but youngster Brooklyn Hudak put the final stamp on the result in the 86th minute.

The result pushed the boys in orange and black off the bottom of the ladder.

Mildura City’s undefeated start to the campaign continued via a 4-0 win over Mildura United.

After also heading in at half-time with the deadlock at 0-0, Tenace Moraitis and Nicolas Woods scored within 16 minutes of the second half starting to earn a strong lead.

A Brandon Pollifrone double in the final 10 minutes secured both the win and top spot on the ladder on goal difference, leapfrogging Irymple Knights who had the bye.

It sets up a huge top-of-the-table clash between the heavyweight sides this weekend.

Nichols Point also hit the back of the net for the first time in the senior women’s season.

However, it wasn’t enough as they drew 1-1 with Irymple Knights.

Rachael Grasso opened the scoring for Knights 10 minutes in before Imogen Tynan scored what proved to be the equaliser in the 18th minute.

Knights will be back in action against Mildura City this weekend.
