LESS than one per cent of commercial flights between Mildura and Melbourne were cancelled in the past year.
Of the 4796 scheduled flights on the route, a total of 46 were cancelled, and more than a quarter of the cancellations were in July.
Data from the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics revealed that between February 2024 and January this year, 39 QantasLink flights and 7 Rex Airlines flights on the Mildura-Melbourne flight route were cancelled.
None of the 34 Bonza flights on the route in February or March last year were called off, prior to the collapse of the company.
QantasLink scheduled 2476 flights on the Mildura-Melbourne route during the period, cancelling 1.58 per cent of them, while Rex Airlines scheduled 2286 flights between the destinations, cancelling 0.31 per cent of them.
There is limited data available for the Mildura-Sydney route serviced by QantasLink.
Two of the 60 QantasLink flights on the route (3.33 per cent) were cancelled in January this year due to adverse weather, while no flights were cancelled on the route in January 2024.
Between February 2024 and January this year across all Australian airports, an average of 2.51 per cent of flights were cancelled, meaning flight reliability at Mildura Airport is better than the national average.
In terms of delays across the 12 months, 27.9 per cent of QantasLink departures between Mildura and Melbourne were delayed, and 27.41 per cent of arrivals on the route were delayed.
For Rex Airlines on the route, 23.14 per cent of departures were delayed, and arrivals were delayed 26.82 per cent of the time.
Bonza flights during February and March on the route had a delayed departure 61.76 per cent of the time, and a delayed arrival 64.71 per cent of the time.
Delayed departures happen on average across all Australian airports 24.54 per cent of the time, and arrivals are delayed 25.21 per cent of the time, meaning flight arrivals and departures to and from Mildura Airport are mostly consistent with the national average
The data also revealed that January 2025 was the quietest month at Mildura Airport, with only 155 flights scheduled on the route, compared to a high of 216 flights in both July and August last year.
There were 22 less flights between Mildura and Melbourne this January compared to the year prior.
