‘Extreme heat’ threatens Boxing Day services

PASSENGERS have been warned there could be changes to V/Line timetables and journey times on Boxing Day and beyond.

Hot temperatures of up to 42 degrees are forecast for Boxing Day, with train services to be slowed if the temperature exceeds 36 degrees, extending journey times.

If a ‘catastrophic’ fire danger rating is in place no V/Line train, scheduled coach or replacement coach services will operate in that fire district.

Sunraysia is part of the Mallee fire district.

A V/Line spokesperson said cricket fans travelling on V/Line services to the first day of the test match at the MCG are encouraged to plan ahead and to allow extra travel time.

Drinking water will be supplied on trains but passengers are also encouraged to bring their own bottled water and wear cool clothing.

Services may be replaced by coaches for all or part of the journey to eliminate the risk of train or track faults.

Extreme heat speed restrictions are enforced by V/Line when temperatures exceed 36 degrees to reduce the likelihood of train and track faults, while also keeping passengers safe.

The latest public transport information and network status are available at vline.com.au, ptv.vic.gov.au or in the PTV mobile app.
