PEOPLE travelling with V/Line will soon be able to access electronic tickets.
Passengers will be provided an option when making a reservation for a long-distance train or scheduled coach service to link the ticket via SMS or email.
The new system would eliminate the necessity of visiting a staffed station to purchase a ticket, or having it sent by post.
Victorian Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams said electronic ticketing will make travel easier.
“We’re always looking for opportunities to improve the passenger experience,” she said.
“Passengers have told us that they want more options for how they receive their V/Line tickets.
“Electronic ticketing will make it easier for them to access and display their tickets on smart phones, or printed at home.”
Additional travel on Victoria’s public transport network such as metropolitan trains, trams and buses will be covered in the same way a paper ticket currently is.
Anyone wishing to collect tickets purchased online will still be able to by visiting the staffed V/Line station, ticket agent, or some train stations on the Melbourne metropolitan network, or have them mailed prior to travel.
The service will begin from Wednesday, September 18.
