City traffic warning for Sunraysia drivers

SUNRAYSIA drivers on their way to or from Melbourne via the western part of the capital should be aware that annual maintenance works on the West Gate Bridge may cause significant traffic delays and disruptions.

Only one outbound lane on the bridge will be open between 9pm on Monday and 5am on Wednesday.

The Transport Department says motorists should expect associated delays across the network, including on the West Gate Freeway between the city and the West Gate Bridge, the Domain Tunnel, the Monash Freeway inbound and surrounding roads through the CBD, Docklands, Southbank, South Melbourne and South Yarra.

Delays of more than 90 minutes are expected.

Drivers heading to Melbourne Airport from the city are also are warned that lengthy delays will affect anyone trying to reach CityLink and the Bolte Bridge from the Monash freeway and Domain Tunnel.
They are strongly encouraged to detour east and north of the CBD to reach CityLink from Mt Alexander Road, Brunswick Road or Bell Street.

Holidaymakers travelling to the Bellarine Peninsula, Surf Coast, south western or western Victoria from east of the city, should detour north of the city using Alexandra Parade, Racecourse Road and Geelong Road to connect with the Princes Freeway, or Ballarat Road to reach the Western Freeway.

People travelling to the city from the western suburbs are strongly encouraged to use public transport or to plan their route home in advance.
