Anyone for tennis?

Jack Burford, Work Experience Student – Irymple Secondary College

THE Red Cliffs Lawn Tennis Club is renowned across the Sunraysia region for its welcoming community and top-class facilities.

Ever since 1921, the club has been able to provide regular play for its members, while inspiring the emerging generation of tennis players to achieve their goals.

Throughout the summer season, the club’s stunning grass courts are in constant use by weekly twilight competitions, Saturday sectional play and annual tournaments.

The competition doesn’t stop during winter, however, as club members are able to represent their team in the Sunraysia District Tennis Association league.

These regular events are on offer for players of all ages and skill levels, ensuring that club members are able to keep their skills in check year-round.

With the summer season set to approach us once again, the club is beginning to invite potential players to pick up a racquet and experience the club’s welcoming atmosphere.

The RCLTC community play coordinator, Lisa Hill, said that “the club is very easy-going and is especially welcoming towards new players.

“We have a range of events that take place throughout the year, with something available for everyone no matter their skills.

“For those who don’t feel ready enough to compete yet, a range of events are on offer to help new members develop their skills.

“This is done through programs like cardio tennis and junior hot shots which are great ways for people of all ages to start out in the sport.”

Hill said that the club has a wide range of events on offer for beginners that allow them to engage in the game without the pressure of competition.

“Our facilities have also received a recent upgrade courtesy of the Mildura Rural City Council,” she said.

“Thanks to them, the fencing surrounding our courts and playground has received an exceptional upgrade.

“This community support is what allows us to supply our high-quality facilities to our members year-round”.

Hill also said that the club is very easy-going and that the Twilight competitions have been a huge hit amongst locals.

“We are also able to provide any new members with equipment like racquets and tennis balls for free.

“If you are interested in joining our club, just know that you will be welcomed and make life-long friendships while improving your fitness.”

Those interested in participating during the summer are reminded that junior, senior and twilight play all occur weekly once the season starts in October.

Inquiries about memberships can be made through club president Gavin Lynch on 0400834300.
