Quarters await at International

PLAYERS at the Mildura International head into the quater finals today following strong play in the round of 16.

In the men’s draw Australians Omar Jasika and Joshua Charlton go head-to-head after both went to three sets yesterday.

Fellow countrymen Alexander Klintcharov will take on Blake Ellis, with the former taking three sets to progress while Ellis – ranked number 295 in the world – only got two games into his Thursday match before his opponent retired.

The only non-Australian left in the men’s draw, Christian Langmo, will play off against Aussie Dane Sweeny – who dropped two sets on his way to the third last round.

In the women there’s five Australians and three Japanese players left in the tournament.

The quarters will see Lizette Cabrera take on Ayumi Miyamoto, Sakura Hosogi play Monique Barry, and Laquisa Khan battle Alicia Smith.

All women were taken to three sets on Thursday.

Finally Chihiro Muramatsu and Elena Micic will do battle after the Australian was pushed to a tiebreaker in her round of 16 match.

Play gets underway at the Mildura Lawn Tennis Club from 11am.
