Tennis talents on show

THE next generation of emerging tennis talents will take to the courts this weekend in Red Cliffs to battle it our for grade honours.

The Red Cliffs Lawn Tennis Club’s annual junior tournament will be served up up on Saturday and Sunday.

More than 100 under-18 players are expected to hit the courts across the weekend, with the club hoping to better the 111 registrations from 12 months ago, with juniors from Ouyen and Robinvale set to take part.

Competition in singles and doubles action will take place from A Grade through to B1, B2, C1, C2 and D grades.

After a two year absence due to low numbers, girls A Grade competition makes a return this year.

In boys A Grade, emerging star Jack Burford is aiming for a third consecutive singles championship.

Tournament director Robert Keens said the courts are in excellent condition ahead of a busy two week schedule.

The junior tournament is also an introduction for the Red Cliffs Lawn Tennis Club Senior Championships next Friday through to Sunday.

Play starts at 9am each day at the Erskine Avenue complex, with singles championships Saturday and doubles on Sunday.
