Go-ahead for junior comps

JUNIOR outdoor sport in regional Victoria can restart.

At 11.59pm on Wednesday all contact and non-contact junior sports were officially allowed to resume.

In addition, adult non-contact sport, can also resume under strict gathering and density limits.

The decision means competitions like tennis, golf and cricket will be allowed to start.

Mildura Lawn Tennis Club president Chris Hobart said he was waiting on advice from Tennis Victoria before making any decision on a season launch date.

The MLTC has indicated it will look to bring forward its summer competition once it receives the go-ahead from Tennis Victoria.

Cricket will also be able to start as scheduled now restrictions have been eased and people are allowed to cross between New South Wales and Victoria to play competition sport.

Junior matches are set to start on October 17, while the women’s competition gets under way on October 30, followed by the men’s the following day.

Clubs are also now allowed to start training, but under strict guidelines.

Golf will also be back to normal with groups of four once again allowed.

But it is not good news for all sporting codes with basketball remaining in limbo.

Under guidelines released by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews this week, indoor sports remain off limits.

As one of the most popular sports in the region, the decision is a bitter blow for the Mildura Basketball Association.
