Coaching goes on at courts

MILDURA Lawn Tennis Club (MLTC) coach Bill Madafferi says it’s business as usual for him despite the impact COVID-19 is having on of other sporting events around Sunraysia.

Madafferi said tennis lessons were proceeding as normal.

“We are still running our business and tennis lessons are still on,” Madafferi said.

The MLTC were forced to cancel their annual Easter tournament this week after Tennis Australia postponed all tennis-operated events, competitions and tournaments until further notice in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tennis Australia made the decision to take further precautions in the interest of the health and wellbeing of the community.
The decision was made based on expert medical advice and is in line with the recommendations of the global tennis community.

Madafferi said he had been in regular contact with Tennis Australia and Tennis Victoria officials about the limitations around coaching.

“They have provided some guidelines for coaches to follow and we have put those in place, but tennis is one of those sports where you do not come into close contact and we have just added a couple of other things like no shaking of hands – just little things like that,” said Madafferi.

He will conduct coaching clinics in the first week of the school holidays for any junior players who are interested. If you want more information call Madafferi on 0419 572 210.
