Red Cliffs Lawn Tennis Club numbers strong

STRONG fields are expected for this weekend’s Red Cliffs Lawn Tennis Club (RCLTC) junior tournament.

More than 50 entries have already been received and acceptances are expected to increase in the lead-up to Saturday’s singles event.

RCLTC junior co-ordinator Tena Williams said many players left it until the final week to enter.

Therefore, she expected an influx of entries in the coming days, she said.

“We always find most people leave it to the last minute to get their entries in,” Williams said.

“Entries are open until Thursday evening so hopefully over the next few days we’ll see a lot more names come through.”

The RCLTC junior tournament has become a favourite event for Sunraysia’s aspiring young tennis players.

Williams said the tournament provided junior players with the opportunity to compete at a higher level and test themselves against some of the best talent in the region.

“Each of the different sections always attracts plenty of talented young players,” she said.

“We cater for all the different standards of players across the different grades.

“This year we will have A grade through to D grade in both the boys’ and girls’ sections.”

Singles matches will be played on Saturday commencing at 9am, followed by the doubles on Sunday.

Zack Galbraith will be looking to defend his title in the boys’ A grade singles while Page McLean will again be favorite to take out the girls’ top division.

Junior players wanting to enter this weekend’s tournament can email their entries through to tenajoy@bigpond.com or call Tena Williams on 0437809206.

The RCLTC senior tournament is also fast approaching and will be held on February 21-23.

The senior event always attracts a strong field across the doubles and singles competitions, with a number of players travelling from Broken Hill to compete each year.
