Riverland prove too strong at junior challenge

RIVERLAND proved too strong for the Mildura Lawn Tennis Club (MLTC) in the annual Riverland Junior Challenge in Sunraysia on Sunday.

Over the years, the Riverland, who draw on players from throughout their region, have dominated the annual challenge.

In the boys’ singles section Riverland finished with 10 rubbers, 22 sets and a total of 158 games to convincingly defeat MLTC who won five rubbers, 13 sets and 119 games.

The girls’ singles was a much closer affair with MLTC winning six rubbers, 16 sets and 145 games but, again, Riverland were just too strong, claiming nine rubbers, 22 sets and 167 games.

Doubles and mixed doubles matches were also player with Riverland finishing the day on 32 rubbers, 72 sets and 544 games to comfortably claim honours over the home side, who won 20 rubbers, 50 sets and 478 games.
