Leaders lose their Bearings

SUNRAYSIA Table Tennis ladder leader Mallee Bearings suffered their first defeat of the season in round 4 and as a result, five of the six teams are now separated by only one win.

In an even team performance, the Tankard Dental trio of Reece Kurrle, Thanh Nguyen and Paul Kealley all won two singles each in their 7-4 victory over the previously undefeated Bearings outfit.

Tankards, after losing their first two matches of the season, have now won two on the trot to grab fourth spot on the ladder albeit by percentage.

Number three player Paul Kealley has now won two singles in three of the four rounds and his form is the reason Tankards have now turned their season around.

Kealley also teamed with Reece Kurrle to win the second doubles over Joel Thomas and Daniel Jansen.

For Mallee Bearings Joel Thomas again won three singles to keep his unblemished record intact.

Like Tankard Dental, Cookes Pools & Spas have won their second match in succession by defeating Regional Taxation Services 7-4.

Kate Carmichael won three singles for the victors while teammates Casper McCarthy and Russell Walder won one each. Victory in both doubles ensured they banked the four points.

Both Andrew Cannard and Rohan Reimers won two singles each for RTS. Reimers is enjoying another consistent season.

Choices Flooring Mildura proved too strong for Weightman’s Packaging, winning 7-4.

Skipper Wayne Carmichael again won three singles to remain undefeated while teammates Leon Brown and Ed Hung won two and one singles respectively.

The match of the night was the very first when Hung accounted for Lee Leeson after trailing two sets to one.

After many long rallies, Hung scored an 11-9 6-11 9-11 11-9 11-9 win to shape the four points for his team and the ladder leadership.
