New pieces for autumn

PAINTINGS and drawings of flowers, landscapes and animals line the walls of the Mildura Riverfront Gallery.

The gallery recently launched its autumn exhibition, which features about 100 different pieces.

Mildura Riverfront Gallery president Carol Treadwell says all the artwork in the exhibition was for sale and had been done by the gallery’s 40 members.

The gallery holds four exhibitions each year and changes them to match the seasons.

“You need to refresh the gallery and offer new work,” Ms Treadwell says.

“It also gives people an incentive to create some new artwork.”

Ms Treadwell says it was exciting to see the new pieces.

“We don’t stick to a theme or anything like that, it’s whatever people are happy painting,”she says.

Artists utilise a range of tools to create their pieces including pastels, oils, water colours, acrylics and pen and ink.

The gallery has existed for 50 years and continues to offer local artists the chance to show their works.

Ms Treadwell says anyone could join the gallery as an artists, it did not matter how skilled they were.

If people are keen to buy a piece or art but don’t have a spot to place it they can purchase a card instead with the artwork they like on it.

The Mildura Riverfront Gallery’s autumn exhibition is open for viewing everyday, except Wednesday, from 10am to 2pm.

The autumn exhibition will finish at the end of May.
