Top tips for preparing your home for a party

Whether you are throwing the ultimate NYE party, a backyard barbecue or a fancy dinner party, these tips are sure to help impress your guests.

First impressions matter

Your front entryway is generally the first thing people are going to see. You want to make sure that your front entryway looks clean and welcoming.

Clean windows in your door if you have them, make sure the floor is clean and de-clutter the hall by removing trip hazards.

Make sure there’s enough room for shoes and appropriate hanging space for coats, whether it’s in the closet or out in the hallway and if possible a safe place for the guests to leave their bags.

Clean, clean, clean

Think about which rooms guests will be going into. If you have children but there is no children attending the party, don’t waste time cleaning their bedrooms.

Stick to cleaning the main areas that will be used. A vacuum and mopped floor can make a huge difference in the cleanliness of the whole house.

Cut the clutter

Less is more when you house is filled with people. Ahead of the party ensure there is enough room for your guests to move freely and remove any items that cause obstruction.

Also remember to put away or move anything you are concerned about being broken. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Bathroom preparations

There’s no doubt that your guests are going to use your bathroom so make sure it’s a pleasant experience by ensuring it is clean and user friendly.

A full bathroom cleaning should always be in order when we’re welcoming guests into your home.

Remember to remove any personal items and trip hazards, this could include the cord to your hair straighter or shaver.

Lastly ensure there is plenty of hand soap, toilet paper and clean hand towels available.

Utilise help

Make a list of what needs to be done and if help is needed make sure to ask.

Use your family or closest friends to help you prepare, whether it be to help clean the house or prepare food for the day.

By getting guests to bring food to share, the pressure is taken off your shoulders and you are more inclined to enjoy yourself.

Make room in the fridge

If you are expecting friends and family to bring food with them, it’s important to ensure you have enough room in the fridge.

A quick clean of the fridge and reshuffle of items, those not needed to the bottom and empty shelves up the top will allow guests to put their food in easily and not spend time having to move things around.

Aroma

The way your house smells definitely affects people as soon as they walk in the door. You want people to smile when they walk through the door, not question the odd smell.

The best way to ensure they will smile is to light some candles, have some fresh flowers or defuse some essential oils and make sure to have thrown out the rubbish so that smell doesn’t linger into the rest of the house.

Be prepared

Minor cleaning emergencies are bound to occur so be prepared for when they do by stocking up on your favourite stain removal products.
Stain remover, cleaning cloths and a bucket is more than enough to deal with any unexpected shenanigans.
