FOR the first time in its four years the La Trobe Student Leadership Conference took place in Mildura, highlighting the Mildura campus and greater region.

Twenty-six speakers travelled from Melbourne, Bendigo, Sydney, Tasmania and a number of local speakers joined more than 60 student leaders for a four-day conference this week.

The Student Leadership Conference held by La Trobe each year is an opportunity for the student leaders from each of the five La Trobe campuses to come together and learn important leadership skills.

The conference aimed to build a strong positive working relationship for the students and staff, so they can collaborate and support each other no matter what campus they are located on.

This year’s conference featured sessions on student success, marketing and social media, student advocacy and event management.

The conference also featured a number of panel sessions with one titled “Pushing Boundaries, Making Change (and sometimes losing friends): Tales from the Trenches”, featuring Rebel Senator Jacqui Lambie, James Price, Stephen Parr, Ali Cupper and Charli Beatty.

Other sessions included a Productivity Ninja Workshop, Diversity on our Campuses: understanding the international student experience and The “F” Word Feminism: Dare it be Spoken in Regional Gender Politics?

Today is the final day of the conference with students expected to hear from executive officer at Food Next Door Co-op Deborah Bogenhuber and board member Joselyne Majambere, along with Ranfurly Primary School principal Denis Mitchell.
The final session will be Our Leadership, Mentoring and Fear Doesn’t Shine hosted by associate lecturer Janine Alabaster.
