FOOTY FIX – Dees close gap on Dogs

MILDURA are making a beeline for South Mildura’s top four position in the run home to the SFNL finals.

The Demons did the job against the Bulldogs at Sarah Oval today to the tune of 43 points, 13.14.92 to 7.7.49.

While the Dees come up against heavyweights Imperials and Irymple in their next two matches, they have bridged the gap between themselves and South to just two points.

Utility man Ben Camilleri kicked three goals in an impressive display, while experienced on ballers Josh Dean and Kane Dawson led the charge for Mildura

South young gun Taj Stevens and ruckman Tyler Curtis put in good stints for the home side, as did defender Jayden Cogan.

Imperials have pinched top spot on the ladder from Merbein, who had the bye this week, after beating a spirited Robinvale Euston by 46 points, 14.11.95 to 7.7.49.

The young and undermanned Eagles outfit took the fight to the Green Machine at Brian Weightman Oval, however after quarter time the home did what was necessary to ensure the victory.

Led by dashing defender Ben Galbraith and midfielders Bryce Hards and Alex Douglas, and three goals from Luke Hickey, Imps were able to put their opponents away, albeit perhaps not to the extent they would have desired.

Robinvale Euston have a plethora of young guns, with Joseph Mezzatesta and James Zappia in particular catching attention, each booting two goals. Defensive pillar Jakob Gareffa also worked hard against the tide.

Wentworth have kept themselves in the hunt for finals after a 51-point win over Ouyen United at George Gordon Oval , 14.12.96 to 6.9.45.

After holding just a two goal lead at half time, the Roos bounded away with an 8.7 to 2.4 second half to stay within reach of Mildura.

Coach Wade Hancock in his return from a hamstring injury booted five majors and starred for the Roos, as did running forward Jordan McKinnon who kicked four. Ruckman Nick Jensen and midfielder Jack Carter also impressed.

Kangas big men Ben Mole and Andy Jardine, and young forward Joel Grace put in decent stints for the visitors in the decisive loss.

Irymple came back from the bye in convincing fashion by taking down Red Cliffs by 55 points, 14.15.98 to 7.3.45.

The Swallows were well on the front foot with a 34 point half time lead and although the Tigers proved competitive in the second half, a five-goal final term from the home side broke the game open.

A returning Dan Coghlan led the way for Irymple in an impressive team effort.
