FOOTY FIX – ‘Pez’ bags 11, Dees win tight one

THOSE at Henshilwood Park had front tickets to see the Nick Pezzaniti show as he hit double figures for the first time in his career.

The Irymple sharpshooter finished with 11.4 as the reigning premiers thumped an undermanned South Mildura by 119 points 24.16.160 to 6.5.41.

After six majors in the first half, and none in the third term, the premiership forward kicked five in the final quarter much to the delight of the Swallows faithful.

Alongside Pezzaniti, many of the Swallows young guns took centre stage, with Mitch Christensen sublime on the wing, and Mitch Roads (four goals) and Connor Mensch (three in the final term) hitting the scoreboard.

It was a dirty day for the Bulldogs who were missing a number of their key players, with Nathan Nolan, Haydn Kiel and Dom Scullino among them.

Matthew Min finished with three majors from few opportunities, and Tyler Curtis was clearly their best player in trying circumstances.

Meanwhile Mildura and Wentworth move to within a game and a half of the SFNL top four following victories today.

The Demons held off a fast-finishing Ouyen United side to win 13.10.88 to 11.16.82, as co-coach Anthony Matthews celebrated game 250 in style.

The big man kicked four goals, as did Carmelo Lando, to have the Dees sitting pretty with a 41-point three quarter time lead.

Sensing their season may have been on the line, the Kangas lit up Brian Weightman Oval in the final term, however inaccuracy cost them, kicking 6.7 to 1.2.

Zac Nelson and Kane Dawson were also impressive for the victors, while James Morrish kicked four majors for the visitors, with Dallas Willsmore and Sam Mead also impressive.

Wentworth made light work of Red Cliffs, running out 55-point winners at Quandong Park, 16.9.105 to 7.8.50.

Nick and Jack Cottrell were again prolific for the Roos, each booting three goals, as did Jordan McKinnon, while ruckman Nick Jensen was also impressive.

Jake Reed kicked another three majors for the Tigers, with defenders Will Hand and Junior Tuifao among their better performers.

After a slow start against Robinvale Euston, Merbein continued their unbeaten run, running out 41-point victors at John James Oval 11.11.77 to 4.12.36.

Anthony Coluccio and Jimmy Kennedy each kicked three majors for the Magpies as Mildura recruits Vinni Rodi and Vinnie Tassone also put in impressive performances.

The Eagles would be kicking themselves with their innacuracy, with Justin Neyland finishing with three of their four majors. Tim Kimberly and James Zappia were good performers for them.
