Racing is no drag for young Wagner

IMAGINE hurtling down a drag strip at 96kph and you’re only eight years old!

That is what Sunraysia’s Todd Wagner will do this weekend when he makes his drag racing debut.

Wagner, 8, will race competitively for the first time at Mildura’s Sunset Strip in the junior nationals after gaining his licence this year.

He will compete in the junior C class against competitors from throughout Australia.

Getting to the starting line has been an exhaustive process for the young racer.

He was required to undergo a series of tests before being given the green light to start his racing career.

Todd’s mother, Jodie, said her son was introduced to the sport after a trip to a local drag racing meeting.

“My husband Steven used to be president of the drag racing club a while ago,” Jodie said.

“My brother races the dirt go-karts and his kids race them and he saved one for Todd and told Todd he could race that and Todd said – ‘I’m not that interested in that’ and we went out and watched the drags and he saw those and said ‘I want to do that’.”
