Eagles lock in finals action

ROBINVALE Euston secured a vital 59 to 46 victory over Irymple in SFNL round 17 action at John James Oval last weekend, cementing third spot on the ladder and marking their first A Grade finals appearance in years.

Both sides entered the clash eager to rebound from last week’s losses and strengthen their finals prospects, with the double chance still up for grabs.

The Eagles started with intensity, applying relentless defensive pressure through Georgie Kelly, Jorja Delcastenge, and Kirsten Neyland.

Belle Giofrelle and Taneh Romeo controlled the midcourt, delivering precise feeds to shooters Sarah Hepburn and Georgia Giofrelle.

By quarter time, the home side held an 18 to 10 advantage.

Irymple responded in the second term, reshuffling positions to find greater attacking fluency.

Midcourters Shakara Delcastegne and Eliza found their targets in Talia Couzier, Shelby Trigg, and Samantha Garraway, consistently under the post.

Evie Oldham’s impact in goal defence slowed the Eagles’ rhythm, narrowing the gap to five.

However, Robinvale Euston regained control late in the quarter to push the margin to 33 to 20 at the main break.

The third quarter saw Carmen McMonnies inject fresh pace into the Eagles’ centre, combining effectively across the court.

Despite Irymple matching the hosts for much of the term, the Eagles edged the quarter to extend their lead to 46 to 32.

The final period was an even contest, with both teams trading goals.

The Swallows maintained pressure and worked tirelessly through Sophie Price and Delcastegne, but the Eagles’ composure ensured they maintained their advantage.

Hepburn was clinical in the shooting circle, posting 42 goals, while Giofrelle added 17.

For Irymple, Couzier top-scored with 21, supported by Garraway’s 14, and Trigg on 11.

Robinvale Euston’s all-court performance, combined with strong finishing, saw them run out 13-goal winners in a high-quality encounter.
