Dees run stays hot at feast in the east

MILDURA extended a winning streak to six-in-a-row with a comfortable 15-goal victory, 70 to 55 over Robinvale Euston in round 16 SFNL A Grade action at the John James Oval on Saturday.

The match began with both sides trading goals at pace in perfect conditions.

It was end-to-end netball in the opening quarter, with scores locked at 15 apiece.

The Eagles came out firing early in the second, applying strong defensive pressure, but it was Mildura’s composed and clinical ball movement that saw them pull away.

Caitlyn Adamson dominated in centre, linking seamlessly through the midcourt and setting up clear opportunities for the Dees’ shooters, with Ava Zadow finishing strongly under the post.

At the main break, Mildura led 34 to 27. However, the third quarter saw a fierce resurgence from the home side.

Strategic positional changes paid off, with Belle Giofrelle and Georgie Kelly starring in defence, while Sarah Hepburn was rock-solid in goals.

The Eagles took control of the tempo, forcing turnovers and surging to a five-goal lead heading into the final quarter.

But the Dees flipped the momentum once again in the final term, lifting the intensity and converting off Robinvale Euston’s errors.

Katelyn Challis was instrumental, producing key intercepts when it was needed most, driving the ball through the midcourt with precision.

Mildura’s defensive unit held firm, shutting down the Eagles’ shooters and allowing the Dees to pile on 39 final-quarter goals to seal their highest-scoring match of the season.

Georgie Kelly and Belle Giofrelle were standout performers for Robinvale Euston, while Caitlyn Adamson and Ava Zadow led from the front for Mildura.

Robinvale Euston now prepare to face a red-hot Irymple while Mildura eye a top-of-the-table clash with Wentworth.
