Demons set for away win

LATE-charging Nangiloc should confirm their berth in the MFNL A Grade finals with an away win over second-placed Cardross.

The Demons all but ended Meringur’s season last weekend with a 24-goal home victory and Ginine’s Sluiter’s squad should be primed for a similar performance this Saturday to move them only half a game behind the Lions with just a round to play.

Star shooter Amber King, midcourter Sienna Charles and defender Sluiter led the way for Nangi but they had plenty of willing helpers.

Cardross also had a victory last week, but that was a 12-goaler against bottom side Gol Gol, so probably doesn’t carry a lot of weight.

Cardy were spearheaded by consistent goal scorer Tamara Hamence, Skye Saunders and defender Tanisha Delcastegne and a win this weekend would keep them alive in the hunt for the double chance with just a final regular season game to go against the Kangaroos, but the defending champions are red-hot after an ice-cold start.

A team which could hamper the Dees’ ascendancy is Werrimull who would move up to second with a win over Gol Gol at Lake Cullulleraine and a Cardross loss.

The Pies pushed the Saints all the way last week before falling by three goals in a thriller by the Lake.

Playing coach Jolene Neyland was in top form for the black and whites in defence and reliable centre Erin Sell and winger Brooke Watson gave her valuable midcourt support.

Gol Gol could not run with Cardy in round 13 despite the toils of Jarae Johnson, Emily Phillips and centre Maka Clarke, and the one-win side should be no match for a squad chasing the double chance.

Top team Bambill get the opportunity to draw the curtain on Meringur’s faint finals hopes at Mildura Senior College.

The Saints were made to battle by Werrimull last time out but, like they have done almost all season – draw notwithstanding, managed to cross the line first.

Different faces appear among their best each round and last week it was the turn of shooter Maddy Tormey, centre Kaylie Monaghan and defender Erin Hird, and Bambill won’t want to lose any momentum with the finals so close.

Zannah Harmer, Madelyn McPhee and Christina Villiva played well for the Kangaroos in the lopsided loss to Nangiloc but Meringur will be looking ahead to next year after the dust settles today.

PREDICTIONS: Demons by seven goals, Magpies by 17, Saints by 25
