Roos take 10 goal win from R’vale, stay unbeaten

IN a fiercely contested round 12 SFNL A Grade clash at John James Oval in Robinvale, the Wentworth Roos emerged with a hard-earned 10-goal victory over Robinvale Euston, 65–55.

The highly anticipated match lived up to its expectations, with both sides showing grit and determination in a high-pressure four-quarter contest.

Wentworth set the tone early with relentless defensive pressure, establishing a 10-goal lead by the first break.

Natalie Vercher and Courtney Wakefield anchored the backline, forcing errors and converting turnover opportunities.

Amanda Edwards was clinical under the post, supported by Elizabeth Rowe and Lola McInerney in a strong shooting display.

The Roos extended their lead in the second term with defenders Vercher and Courtney

Healy picking off key intercepts, while Molly Mangan dictated play through the midcourt with poise and precision. Edwards continued her accuracy in the ring, helping Wentworth to a nine-goal lead at half-time.

The third quarter marked a resurgence for the Eagles.

Defenders Gabby Marrone, Jorja Delcastagne, and Georgie Kelly turned up the heat, disrupting the Roos’ attack and allowing Robinvale Euston to outscore their opponents 17–16 for the term.

Belle Giofrelle’s pinpoint feeds into Sarah Hepburn, who finished with 31 goals, and Georgia Giofrelle with 24, reignited the home side’s momentum.

With just eight goals the difference heading into the final quarter, both teams traded markers in a fast-paced finish.

However, a late burst led by Edwards (52 goals) saw Wentworth steady and close out the game strongly.

Mangan was a standout on the wing, while Kelly’s tireless effort earned her best-on-court honours for the Eagles.

Wentworth proved too strong in the end, but Robinvale Euston’s fight showed this is a rivalry worth watching.
