Wenty clinical at home to Ouyen Utd

IT was another clinical performance from Wentworth as they coasted to a 58-34 win over Ouyen United in round 11 SFNL A Grade action.

In the second grad final rematch of the season, Amanda Edwards shot 42 goals, including 14 goals in the first quarter, to set the tone for her side.

Wentworth controlled the game from start to finish, winning all four quarters.

The second quarter was emphatic, as Wentworth restricted Ouyen to just six goals.

The Roos made some changes in the last quarter, moving Liz Rowe into attack and young gun Lola McInerny into defence, which was effective as they scored 16 to 7 to finish off strongly.

Mid-courter Jess Minter was in their best alongside Edwards.

Despite the loss, Ouyen coach Kyra Nathan saw plenty of positives.

“I was really proud of the way we played,” she said.

“I thought we played a great style of game, as did they. It is always a great game against Wentworth. Ellen Morrish was outstanding, as was Megan Jardine in attack.

“Our defenders did a great job of slowing the ball to Amanda. Our goalies will learn a lot from today’s game.”

While Wentworth are up the top, the bottom placed Kangas have a mountain to climb if they are to make finals this season.

Ouyen have often timed their run into finals, and that run will need to start next week against Irymple.

Final Score

Wentworth 58
Ouyen United 34
