Too early to call teams

WE are two games into this little puppy of an A Grade netball season and it’s still hard to get an idea of the trajectories of most of the teams.

Yep, Wentworth look awesome – again. South Mildura, Red Cliffs and Robinvale Euston may be in for long seasons, but that’s too early to call and the rest is a mishmash.

Included in that middling group are neighbours Mildura and Imperials who meet at the all-too-familiar Brian Weightman Oval courts today.

In clearly undefined starts to 2025 the Demons have a win and a draw and Imps a win and a loss.

Mildura, under the guidance of new coaches and gun players Ava Zadow and Jess McNamara, would appear to hold an edge heading into the encounter.

They have veteran poise in evergreen defender Sharon Watson and youthful enthusiasm at the other end of the court in livewire teen shooter Ashleigh Morello.

A lacklustre draw with Red Cliff was followed by a more impressive display last week in a solid win over Robinvale Euston but both those sides are not rating highly at the moment.

Imps battled gamely in an opening round loss to premiers Ouyen United and then had too much for South Mildura to handle before the Easter break.

Coach Ali Walker seems to have her team, which finished seventh last season, buzzing and the re-inclusion of the McManus sisters, Meg and Maddy, certainly hasn’t hurt the cause.

We probably won’t know too much more about the projected paths of the cohabitants after today’s clash, but it should be fun to watch.

PREDICTION: Demons by three goals
