Oosting takes tough job

IF there was a MFNL award for ‘Most Courageous Coach’, Gol Gol’s new A Grade leader, Brooke Oosting, would be a runaway favourite heading into the new season.

The hapless Hawks failed to win a game last season and then lost the bulk of their better players and coach over the summer.

Oosting, who was co-coaching junior teams at Gol Gol last season, decided to take on seemingly mission impossible at the club on the other side of the river in what could be best described as a show of uncommon valour.

“There weren’t too many interested in the job, so I put my hand up,” Oosting said.

“I thought why not give it a crack and hopefully we can get a few wins.

“We lost all but two of the A Grade team from last season, but things are looking really good. We have lots of new players with good skills across the grades and have added height as well – which is a bonus.”

Most of those players have come from the junior ranks with Ebony Greenhill, Montana Treffene, Ally Stanborough and MacKenzie Clarke showing good preseason form.

“We are trying to keep things positive on the court and being there for each other,” Oosting said.

“That has been a focus. It would be amazing if we could get a win early in the season and raise spirits again.

“We want to grow together and when we do have those losses, keep our heads high and go again next week. That’s all we can do.”
