Perfect Roos remain undefeated

THE wind and rain did nothing to dampen Wentworth’s perfect season, as the minor premiers kept up their undefeated streak against Robinvale Euston with a 44-goal win.

The clinical Roos took full advantage of the Eagles developing side, putting out a solid, clean performance in their last match of the home-and-away season.

While it was always going to be a tough day on the court for the Eagles, captain Kirsten Neyland said the team focused on the little wins throughout the match in order to keep their heads up.

“We focused on just one quarter at a time, keeping that pressure up, and the positive things,” she said.

“Every quarter we came off we talked about our positive things and we went back on there and rewarded our positive things, like celebrating if we got an intercept of a good goal, just supporting each and backing each other for the whole game.”

Eagles coach Georgia Giofrelle said it was always good to play a top side like Wentworth and see how they got to be one of the best.

“We look at teams like that and we ask ourselves how do we get like that, what’s their secret,” she said.

“They are at the top for a reason.”

Although the Eagles won’t be playing finals, Neyland said it was clear to see the development they had made over the course of the season, and they are already looking forward to what they can do in 2025.

“I just think we’ve learnt a lot as a team, and learnt a lot about each other too,” she said.

“That was one of our main goals, bonding and coming together and making strong connections.”

Molly Mangan and Elizabeth Rowe were among the Roos best, while Penny Follett and Shakira Hingano stood out for the Eagles.
