Young ace delivers again for Dees

MILDURA A Grade netballer Ava Zadow continues to be a shining light in a strong Demons team.

The athletic teenage utility has been superb in Mildura’s push for finals again this year, regularly featuring in the best players, as she did in a strong victory against Irymple.

Coach Ellie Vincent admitted she was “lucky to have her” on her team.

“Every week Ava is incredible and she reads the ball so well, and her voice down the court as well,” Vincent said.

“Ava is just amazing to have out there, she has such a big presence.

“She shines every week in my eyes, but I suppose all my girls do as a coach.

“She sees things from a different perspective, particularly from a basketball background, which she brings to the netball court. I’m very lucky to have her.”

Named in the 2023 A Grade team of the year as a defender, Zadow has also been swung into attack to great effect during this campaign however she was in her more familiar role in the win against Irymple.

The team’s latest victory was a dress rehearsal to the finals, with both Mildura and Irymple set to play against each in the first week of the playoffs.

Vincent said the squad felt strong going into the finals but needed to stick to the fundamentals and not get ahead of themselves on the court.

“I think we should just go back to basics, build on what we have, and refine everything,” Vincent said.

“We are very fortunate to have players who will go out and give the best they can based on what you ask of them. It’s just amazing and rare to find.”

“We’re not expecting to waltz right through. Each team is very strong and competitive, so each week, we are just going to take it as it comes and play the best netball we can.”

As the Round 16 Netballer of the Round, Zadow wins $150 from Mildura Golf Resort.
