Pies still alive in finals race

MERBEIN’S finals hopes remain intact following their hard-fought win over Red Cliffs at Quandong Park.

Following a run of six consecutive losses, two of those by six goals or less, the Magpies earned the 48-44 victory over the Tigers to ensure they remained within a game of South Mildura.

The Pies, however, have only two home-and-away games remaining, against Imperials and Ouyen United, to earn the points and enough percentage to reach the final five.

Sophie Gray and Rhiannon Jack earned plaudits for their respective performances.

The Tigers’ improvement belies their status at the bottom of the table under new coach Romany Bowen, and they gave the Pies a run for their money on a day they celebrating A Grade game No.100 for Jorja Parker. Sister and captain Jazmin Parker and Yelena Richardson were named Red Cliffs’ best.
