Centre stage for Shakara

CONSISTENCY is always key when it comes to sport, and gun Irymple netballer Shakara Delcastegne is as consistent as they come.

For a number of years now the Swallows mid-court general has been a vital member of her club’s team and has rarely played a bad game, a solid feat considering she’s only 22 years old.

Delcastegne was again important for her side in tough conditions on Saturday, helping the Swallows to a 36-30 victory over tough opponents Ouyen United at Blackburn Park.

Five wins in a row for Irymple have them clear in third on the ladder and almost certain to earn the double chance comes finals.

Any points from their remaining three games, before a final round bye, will secure their place and a likely qualifying final match against Mildura.

Delcastegne, who can also feature on the wings, has been instrumental in supplying a new-look attacking line this season of Shelby Trigg and Vanessa Power, with Bronte Pezzaniti usually in support in wing attack.

A big final month of the home and away season awaits the Swallows, beginning with likely fellow finalists South Mildura on Saturday, before contests against the top two in Wentworth and Mildura.

As the round 14 Netballer of the Round, Declastegne receives $150 from Mildura Golf Resort.
