EBONY Roberts described herself as being “born into” the Bambill Football Netball Club, with which she celebrates her 200th netball game on Saturday.
She said the inclusive, family atmosphere kept her putting on her bib year in, year out.
“My grandparents, great-grandparents, mum and dad all played for the club, and now me and my brother are playing, so we’ve just been there forever,” Roberts said.
In her time with the Saints, the goal shooter has laid claim to a premiership and an A Grade best and fairest.
But for Roberts, the fun in the sport doesn’t come from the accolades or wins on the board, but rather the community environment the club provides.
“I’m just hanging out with my best mates every Thursday and Saturday,” she said.
“Now that I’ve got two young kids, it’s good seeing them grow up and make new friends like we did as kids.
“My best friend to this day I met at the club, so that is pretty cool watching my kids do the same thing.”
Although describing herself as not super competitive, Roberts and her A Grade team have had a great season so far, sitting in second on the ladder with just one loss and one draw.
“We have got a great little team, a great little vibe,” Roberts said.
“It’s a really cool place to be.”
On Saturday the Saints will play one of their toughest matches of the season against ladder leaders Werrimull, with percentage the only thing separating them.
The last time the two sides met in round 4, they drew at 33 goals apiece.
The results of Saturday’s match will determine who will claim top spot going into the last four rounds of the home-and-away season.
In other Millewa games, Nangiloc will go up against Cardross, while Gol Gol take on Meringur.
All of the matches are being played at Lake Cullulleraine as part of Mega Day.
