Tiger time in one-goal thriller

RED Cliffs’ A Grade netballers have given themselves a four-point buffer at the bottom of the Sunraysia league ladder after a win by the slimmest possible margin over visiting Robinvale Euston.

In a back-and-forth affair, Tigers coach Romany Bowen has some positive words for her squad, but was also realistic.

“A win is definitely a good feeling, and especially for Red Cliffs, I’m not sure of the last time we would have had more than one win in a season,” she said.

“We’re hitting our goals, and things are definitely showing signs of coming together.

“However, it was a slightly ugly win, and it could have gone either way. We had plenty of unforced turnovers and inaccuracy at the ring.

“The weather played a part, but some of it was on us as well.”

While the Eagles took the first quarter by a three-goal margin, the Tigers stayed in contact going eight each in the second, winning the third 10 to 7, before an 11-10 all final term secured the win for the home team.

Red Cliffs’ Zara Copley had 28 from the shooter’s spot, supported by Jasmin Parker at attack with 13, but the coach said it wasn’t all down to effort inside the offensive arc.

“The shooters lifted when they had to in the final quarter,” said Bowen.

“It’s definitely nice to have to have ‘Jaz’ and Zara in the goal ring, and Jasmin is growing every week in her leadership and supporting role, which is a different position for her to be in this season.

“But for me, our defensive end really stood up yesterday, and they’re just continuing to improve week by week.”
