Demons out for revenge

IN a grand final rematch, Nangiloc will be looking to redeem themselves against Werrimull in the MFNL A Grade this Saturday.

This is the second time the Demons will face the Magpies this season after narrowly missing out on the 2023 premiership, having gone down by 20 goals to the premiers in round 3.

Demons coach Annette Emonson said historically it has always been an interesting match-up between the two sides.

“As always, we’re cautious,” she said.

“It’s always a good contest against Werrimull, the grand final last year proved that.”

Despite being sidelined herself with an injury sustained in their game against Meringur, Emonson said she is confident in the strength of her squad.

“The good news is that we’ve got multiple people who can play multiple positions,” she said. “I don’t think anyone is irreplaceable,” she said.

“One good thing we have got with our team this year is depth and options, so we just go with what we have and make the best of what we have.”

Demons’ defensive duo Ginine Sluiter and Gabby Gardner are set to take to the court this weekend, while new recruit Maddy Price will be one to watch in the goal circle.

Despite having a solid win last time they came up against each other, Magpies coach Anna Thomson said she expects it will be a tough game against the Demons.

“We don’t have our full side in either this week which means that we have to change it around a little bit, so we are definitely not at full strength, which doesn’t help when you are playing one of the top teams,” she said.

The Magpies are still without Brooke Watson, who is out with an injury, and will also be without Chelsea Newey today.

However, Thomson said this gives her side a chance to experiment with their line-up and try players in different positions.

“Hopefully we can get that versatility that I know that we have and get everyone in a different position that we would normally play so that we have more options as the season progresses,” she said.

“As a coach, having the option to put my players into different positions would make it a lot easier.”

In other games this weekend, Gol Gol will host Bambill at Gol Gol Football Oval, while Meringur will go up against Cardross at Lake Cullulleraine Oval.
