Top-four race tightens

JUST four points splits the entire top four on the MFNL A Grade netball ladder after the first third of the season.

While Cardross, Bambill, Werrimull and Nangiloc have already established themselves as the early front-runners to make finals, their positions are still up for grabs as the campaign takes shape.

Top-of-the-table Cardross immediately bounced back from their first defeat of the season, securing a solid 28-goal win over Gol Gol, 62 to 34.

Darcie Gray led the charge for the Lions, with coach Mel Kennedy and Bronte Burgess also playing important roles in the victory.

For the Hawks, Sophie Lanyon continued her strong form while coach Meg Hammond and Ebonee Newson also performed well.

Bambill secured second place on the ladder with a 20-goal win over Nangiloc at Mildura Senior College.

The Demons were the first team to knock over Cardross last week but the Saints were in control in a low-scoring contest, 38-18.

Mikayla Mole, Maddy Tormey and Erin Hird were the best-performed in the goals for the red, white and black.

Reigning Dot Wilson Trophy winner Tamara Loveridge played well for the Demons, supported by Kristy Middleton and Maddy Price.

Defending premiers Werrimull leap-frogged Nangiloc into third place after a 32-goal win over Lake Cullulleraine co-tenants Meringur.

The Roos were able to get on the board for their first win last week, but the Magpies controlled this contest to run out 69-37 winners, securing the highest team score for the season so far.

Maddison Maher, coach Anna Thomson and Aislinn Campbell led the way for the winners, while Teagan Pettigrew, Fionna Wright and Kimberley Harlock were the best on court for Meringur.
