Tigers drought-breaking win

THE belief at Red Cliffs continues to grow after the club’s A Grade netballers secured an impressive drought-breaking win against Robinvale Euston last weekend.

Entering the match-up, the Tigers hadn’t won in 18 games, so when the final siren sounded, emotions were understandably running high at John James Oval, the 47-41 result a reflection of the team’s hard work, according to coach Romany Bowen.

“There was a few mixed emotions after the game, not so much celebration but just relief and a few tears but lots of happiness,” she said.

“It wasn’t our prettiest game but a win is a win and it just instils that belief that I’ve been drumming in all season.”

To start their season, signs have been encouraging for Red Cliffs.

A loss against Wentworth was expected, but the Tigers showed their resilience the following week with a narrow defeat to Irymple, a team expected to do well this year.

The Tigers led that game in the third quarter before they were overrun by the Swallows.

“Against Irymple I said to the girls that it was our first loss for the season that we had control over, the passes and turnovers were well within our control,” Bowen said.

For the Red Cliffs netball program, it was a dream weekend, with all six grades recording a win.
