Lions turn around under new coach

CADROSS have made a bright start to the new MFNL A Grade netball campaign with a 25-goal win over Gol Gol.

The Lions secured just one win last year and finished on the bottom of the table, but the could not have asked for more in their first game under new coach Mel Kennedy as they sit on top of the ladder after the opening round following the 52-27 result.

Tamara Hamence, Darcie Gray and Bronte Burgess all played important roles in the victory under lights at Alcheringa Oval.

Gol Gol were best served by Lucy Brown, Jordan Madigan and Jemma Lawn.

Reigning premiers Werrimull premiers survived a tough first hit out of the season against Lake Cullulleraine co-tenants Meringur, holding on for a six-goal victory.

The Roos took the fight to the Magpies after showing some impressive signs of development last season, but the current champions were able to put together a 52-46 victory.

Tara Martin led the charge for Werrimull, supported by top performances from the returning Erin Sell and Maddison Maher.

Lakayla Pettit, Fionna Wright and Teagan Pettigrew were all good players for Meringur, who should take confidence for the rest of the season.

After going down by one-point in last year’s grand final, Nangiloc have started their path to redemption on a good note by defeating Bambill on their home court.

The Saints kept the contest tight but the Demons were able to earn valuable early season points thanks to the 39-36 score line.

Maddy Price, Kristy Middleton and Chloe Nelson were all impressive for Nangiloc, while Elisha De Amicis, Mikayla Mole and Samantha Garraway were among the better performers for Bambill.
