Robinvale Euston netball season preview

ROBINVALE EUSTON

COACH: Georgie Giofrelle

2023 SEASON: Eighth

FIRST MONTH: Imperials (A), Bye, Red Cliffs (H), Merbein (H)

ARRIVALS: Indi Kirby, Belinda Evans, Mia Doherty, Belle Giofrelle

DEPARTURE: Taneh Romeo

IT’S young talent time at John James Oval this year as the Eagles put their faith in rising star Georgie Giofrelle to guide their A-grade netball squad.

The 20-year-old was an attacking weapon in the fast-improving Robinvale Euston team, who were competitive for most of the 2023 season, where they racked up two wins and a draw in escaping the wooden spoon.

Giofrelle will be playing coach of a team who will be without the tireless Taneh Romeo (pregnant) this season.

But Indi Kirby returns in defence after a stint with Balranald in defence, and Georgia’s sister Belle is back for a full season.

Georgia said she was a “bit nervous” on the eve of the team’s opening-day clash with Imperials this weekend.

“That’s just how I always am. But I think we’ll be very competitive this season,” she said.

“We had a draw against Imperials the last time we played them, so it should be another close game.

“We’ll have individual and team goals for this season, and making sure we encourage each other throughout the whole game.”

Giofrelle has welcomed club president Phil Lamattina running the netball program.

“We communicate all the time and the girls think it’s great what he’s doing,” she said.

“It’s bringing the club together. We do feel more of a connection now between the two (football and netball). It’s good for the overall club culture.”
