Mildura netball season preview

MILDURA

COACH: Ellie Vincent

2023 SEASON: Second

FIRST MONTH: Imperials (H), Merbein (A), Ouyen United (H), South Mildura (A)

ARRIVALS: Hanna Zambelli, Sharon Watson

DEPARTURES: Zara Copley, Katelyn Challis

MILDURA are building for something special in 2024 as they look to consolidate on making last year’s A-grade netball grand final, where they fell to competition benchmark Wentworth.

Ellie Vincent will take the coaching reins from veteran Sharon Watson, who is returning to playing duties with the team.

“Going into this year, we have so much depth and strength in the side,” Vincent said this week.

“Katelyn Challis has decided to take the year away from netball. We will miss her presence and energy on the court. And Zara Copley has moved to Red Cliffs. We are super excited for her in her next chapter.

“But we have players coming in, including Sharon and Hanna Zambelli, which is super exciting. I can’t wait to see them step on the court.”

Asked where the Dees were looking to improve to bridge the gap to the Roos, Vincent said: “We respect Wentworth and their success over a number of years.

“But our sole focus has been on creating not only a strong team and club culture on the court, but also off the court.

“We want to ensure we give ourselves the best opportunity to be the best team that we can.”

She said that across the club, “everyone has worked incredibly hard in the off-season, coming back fitter and stronger”.

“We are incredibly lucky to have great depth across all grades,” Vincent said.

“Pre-season has just been fun for us all. We have worked on creating a fun and positive culture. Everyone is excited to be back on the court with each other.”
