Hammond relishes new coaching role

TAKING on a new role as Gol Gol’s A Grade coach, esteemed netballer Meg Hammond is excited to reignite her passion for the sport.

Since moving to Mildura 10 years ago, Hammond has played all of her netball at Irymple, as well as being selected for a number of different representative teams over the years.

This season, she has decided to try her hand at something different, taking on the role of A Grade coach at Gol Gol.

“Although having experience in coaching juniors previously, I see this as a great opportunity to learn the aspects of coaching seniors and whether this would be something I enjoy continuing for future years of being involved with the sport,” Hammond said.

“Since returning to the sport after an ACL injury, I have been eager to gain my love for netball again.

“Coaching will give me the opportunity to find my passion for the sport that was once a big part of my life.”

Hammond has her sights set high for her first season as a coach, hoping to bring home a premiership cup.

“I know Gol Gol have been competitive in both football and netball previously, and it would be great to continue and be a part of that success,” she said.

But for now, she is happy getting to know her teammates and creating bonds on and off the court.

“It has been lovely so far, forming new relationships and friendships with club members, which I am eager to continue to build.”.

Hammond follows her partner, Ricky Newey, to the Hawks, saying it is also a great chance for them to play at the same club for once.
