Netball coach’s boost

FORMER Netball Victoria president Richelle McKenzie dropped in to the Mildura Sporting Precinct on Saturday morning to impart her knowledge on some of Sunraysia’s most passionate netball coaches.

Since starting her netball career in 1963, McKenzie has gone on to have an illustrious career in the sport, as a player, coach and in administration.

A Netball Victoria life member, McKenzie currently works for the Northern Football Netball League as a coach developer.

The veteran spent time in the classroom and on the court with some keen listeners on Saturday.

Mildura Netball Association secretary Alana Mills said the full-day intermediate course was the first of its kind in at least 10 years.

“Richelle is renowned, so to have someone of that calibre come down and run that course is just amazing for our region,” she said.

“It just gives a lot more knowledge to our coaches, which can then be passed down through clubs.

“That will hopefully improve netball as a whole for the Sunraysia region.

“The fact that we filled it really quickly is amazing and shows that we have people willing to learn more.”
