WERRIMULL have a “point to be proven” when they take on Nangiloc in this weekend’s Millewa A Grade netball grand final.
The Pies, who went through last season unbeaten before being knocked out of the finals in straight sets, get their shot at redemption after overcoming Bambill in the preliminary final.
Werrimull coach Anna Thomson said while her team would go in as underdogs this year, they knew from experience that anything can happen in finals.
“We put all that effort in (last year) and didn’t go anywhere, so we definitely have a point to be proven this year,” she said.
“We proved on Saturday that we weren’t going to let (Bambill) beat us for a second time in overtime.”
Thomson expected the final game against the Demons to be “tough”.
Nangiloc have defeated the Pies in two of their three match ups this year, but the experienced playing coach said that counted for little heading into the decider.
“It is a grand final, anything can happen,” she said.
“You never know who will show up and play well and who will crumble under pressure.”
Thomson had confidence that Werrimull were in a good place and playing their “best netball yet”.
“We definitely didn’t start (this season) with our strongest seven and as time has gone on we have got Rachel Thomas back and then I came back for the final six rounds,” she said.
“So as the year’s gone on we’ve included girls back in and improved each week
“I feel we are definitely at a point that we should be excited about now.”
Thomas was missing from last week’s game, leading to a change in positioning on court.
Thomson said it was good to have the full team back.
“Unfortunately we didn’t have Rach on Saturday, we really missed her and we were unsure as to which changes to make to fill her spot but the girls did really well to fill her spot,” she said.
“We are super excited to have her back on Saturday and have the full eight side.”
